Welcome!
Hi,I am Hopeland, an ecologist by training. My interests broadly lie in biodiversity, ecology and conservation with an interdisciplinary approach. Most of my research revolves around species distributions, species ecology, natural history, landscape ecology and urban ecology at the interface of research applications, policy interventions and community inclusive conservation measures. I am currently increasingly focussing on urban ecology and associated solutions.
I live the dream I had as a kid, i.e working with wildlife. Anything from mammals, birds, reptiles, insects and sometimes even plants interests me. My strength lies in integrating of multilevel knowledge systems like cross-taxa biodiversity knowledge, ecological knowledge , sociology, history - as wide as disciplines go arriving at solutions that are transdisciplinary in nature.
My work has taken me to various parts of India, ranging from the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu and Kerala - their protected areas like Kalakad- Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Top Slip, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, KodaiKanal Wildlife Sanctuary, Thattekad Sanctuary amongst several others spanning over eight states of India. These work have involved working with various education institutions(national and international) government bodies, research organisations, non- governmental organisations and independent local communities.
Since I constantly look for opportunities to solve conservation problems and apply ecological knowledge, I appreciate interdisciplinary conversations spanning geography, anthropology/sociology, technology, political ecology, policy making, and urban planning amongst others.
I am happy to collaborate with anyone who finds my work interesting. Got a doubt, an idea or need help? Let’s talk.
